Govt, opposition on same page for country’s interest: Governor

LAHORE: Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said on Saturday that government and the opposition were on the same page for best interest of the country.

Talking to overseas Pakistani Mian Tariq Javed, players and office-bearers of Punjab Judo Association and various delegations headed by Chaudhry Asim and others here, he said that difference of opinion was the magnificence of democracy but political parties were united on the point to take Pakistan further consensually.

He said that elimination of terrorism, corruption and resolving of economic and other problems was indispensable for the country and the nation, and there would be no compromise on it.

Punjab Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar said, “From the day first, we are saying that we do not have any personal grudge with the opposition as we are pursuing the agenda to get Pakistan rid of corruption, violence, injustice, price-hike, unemployment and other problems."

The way the opposition was extending cooperation to the government in the parliament for public and country's interest was indeed commendable, and it would strengthen democracy, parliament and the country, he remarked.

Presently, Pakistan was faced with economic challenges and the menace of terrorism against which the political and religious parties were united, and Pakistan Armed Force and other security forces were fighting effectively against terrorism, while entire nation was standing with its defense institutions, he maintained.

Those, who martyred innocent people through terror attack in a Quetta mosque, could never be the Muslims, and our sympathies were very much with bereaved families of martyrs, he said.

In a meeting with players and office-bearers of Punjab Judo Association, Punjab Governor felicitated the players for winning 32 gold, 41 silver and 59 bronze medals in 13th South Asian Games.

He said that Pakistanis were earning laurels for Pakistan in every field including sports from across the world, and the entire nation was proud of its heroes.

He said that government was working to empower and prosperous the youths and ‘Hunnermand Pakistan Programme' would ensure industrial revolution in the country.
