There won't be delay in cases anymore: CJP
KARACHI – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Asif Saeed Khosa said on Friday that hearing of the cases won’t be adjourned without being addressed whereas a case will be heard on daily basis to overcome the delaying tactics in cases.
Addressing to a conference, CJP expressed that two biggest loopholes in the criminal justice system are false testimony and delaying tactics. He said false testimony is needed to be curtailed if we want a society based on justice. He added that usually statements are not false when a person knows he/she is going to be executed for his crime whereas sometimes eyewitnesses are the relatives of the defendant for which they are going to form an assessment committee for credence in statements.
He asserted that it is not enough to confess the crime in front of the police only, the investigative officer should know how to prove the prosecution in the judiciary. “We have to improve our investigation process and consider those who give false testimony same as the criminal,” he added.
CJP Asif Khosa went on to say that there are good officers in every department including police. “We need to improve the police system and its image in society. Freedom of police is as important as independence of the judiciary,” he continued.
He added that they have made three decisions regarding delay of the cases. Justice Asif Saeed Khosa said important decisions have been made to overcome delaying tactics in cases. He said now testimonies in one case will be completed before proceeding to other cases, and it will be equal responsibility of the police.
