Those involved in trains clash would be punished: Sheikh Rasheed
LAHORE – Federal Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed said Rahim Yar Khan trains accident is being investigated and those involved in negligence would be punished. The minister said he will hand over his resignation to Bilawal if felt that he was responsible for the tragic incident.
Talking in Dunya News program Nuqta-e-Nazar, he said report of the incident will be issued in 3 to 4 days and all those involved would be punished weather they take stay orders from courts.
Railways minister said only solution is to replace old Phatak system with signals, adding that this was first accident during current government’s tenure. He said 79 accidents happened in year 2104-15 while 78 accidents occurred during 2016-17. He added that 67 accidents of trains were reported in 2017-18.
He said main reason of these accidents is derailing of trains or when a motorbike comes in front of trains. He said there is no one on duty on 1500 out of 2800 gates. He said there are 13000 bridges and people use to pass tracks through these bridges.
He said ministry has got Rs 4 billion for ML-1, adding that they have added to the income of railways. He said currently 136 passenger trains and 55 freight trains are running.
He said this government has added 6 million passengers on trains and the target is 10 million. He said railways’ deficit was reduced by 4 billion.
